See how top F2P spenders are shaping our industry at GDC 2015

Back in 2013, Kongregate cofounder Emily Greer delivered an insightful GDC talk about best practices for free-to-play game design. Next March she returns to the conference to delve deeper into what makes F2P games tick: those big spenders we often call "whales." In her upcoming GDC 2015 talk, "Don't Call Them Whales: F2P Spenders and Virtual Value," Greer (a self-professed stats geek) will examine this phenomenon by looking at demographics, play and buying patterns for top spenders on the Kongregate web platform and mobile games, how expectations of game spending and value are formed, and how attitudes toward spenders and spending shape the whole industr…

Report- Nintendo of America laying off contractors ahead of Switch 2 launch

Layoffs have hit Nintendo of America, according to Kotaku. Sources told the outlet the US arm of Nintendo is undergoing a "massive downsizing" that will see over 100 contractor layoffs.

Along with those cuts, a Nintendo spokesperson told Kotaku a "significant number" of full-time positions will be created. However, these new jobs will reportedly move those affected out of software testing.

"[NOA] has reorganized its Product Testing functions to drive greater global integration in game development efforts," the email reads. "The changes will also better align NOA with interregional testing procedures and operations."

Thus far, layoffs have managed to hit

Starbreeze’s earnings drop during self-described ‘expansive phase’

Starbreeze Studios' latest earnings report shows the Swedish game company's fortunes are on the wane, the result of a self-described "expansive phase" of company-wide investment with the goal of hitting SEK 2 billion ($238.1 million USD) in revenues by 2020.

The company reported a loss (before tax) of SEK 35.3 million ($4.2 million USD) on SEK 77.7 million ($9.2 million USD) in revenues generated during its third quarter, which ended in September. That's a bit of a drop from the same period last year, when the company reported SEK 11 million ($1.3 million USD) in profits on SEK 102.7 million ($12.23 million USD) in revenues.

Sports Interactive strikes deal for Premier League to feature in Football Manager games

Sports Interactive, the studio behind the Football Manager series, has struck a deal with the Premier League organization over the next four years worth of games.

Starting with the 2024-2025 season, the 20 clubs that make up England's football league will be fully licensed within the games, from player photos to team logos and kits.

The sports management series is a football fixture in the UK, and access to the equally important Premier League helps expand the audience for both. For publisher Sega, the multi-year deal could lead to a renewed, potentially longer deal down the line.
