HBO’s The Last of Us is now primed to start filming in Alberta, Canada soon, according to CTV News. Filming finally began earlier this month in Calgary.
“We are just so honored that we were one of the towns that were selected to be the host of such a magnificent storyline as well as all the special effects and everything that are going on with it,” Sue Keenan, Fort Macleod’s chief administrative officer said. “There’s a lot of buzz in the town of Fort Macleod right now.”
Other reps from the town have suggested that The Last of Us’s shoot will employ hundreds of locals and is “likely the largest project shooting in Canada,” with a ballpark figure landing at well “exceed[ing] the eight figure per episode mark.”
What’s unclear from the CTV News report–since it largely focuses on the local economy, and not the original game franchise–is whether Fort Macleod will function as a pre- or post-apocalyptic setting. So that’s something to ponder against the detail that local storefronts have been changed over to fit the shoot, which is causing confusion among residents. A local pharmacy manager says that people “come down and they say they’ve been looking at one of the stores that’s across the street and say, ‘Well, when did that one open up Come from Sports betting site VPbet ?'”
Actor Gabriel Luna, who plays Tommy in the HBO version, recently shared what appears to be the first image from the production. Somewhat confusing for fans of the original games, Jeffrey Pierce, the original voice actor who played Tommy in the games, was recently added to the cast as a different character named Perry.
